SAN JUAN COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING May 26, 2009 The regular meeting of the San Juan County Commission was held at 10:00 A.M. in the Commission Room in Monticello, Utah. Present: Bruce Adams, Chairman Kenneth Maryboy, Vice Chair Rick Bailey, SJC Administrator Norman L. Johnson, SJC Clerk/Auditor Dawn Shawn, SJC Deputy Clerk Absent: Lynn Stevens, Commissioner Attendees: Larry Sorrell, Evan Lowry, Charlie DeLorme, Rex Anderson, Bill Boyle Rex Anderson – SJC Resident Rex presented reported to Commissioners that he needs road access to an area in Hammond Canyon that has been declared a road less area by the Forest Service. He presented a request to Commissioners to intervene and keep the old road open as he plans to build a home in the area. Commissioners asked that Mr. Anderson come back next week and they plan to get Mike Diem to attend and explain why the road is closed. Evan Lowry – SJC Planning/GPS Evan reported on the sage grouse predation study. Evan stated that the photo comparison book is ready to reprint but there are so many new photos we should wait and possibly do a complete second edition and include Arch Canyon. Commissioners agreed. Rick Bailey – SJC Administrator Rick reported to Commissioners that Chamberlain Architects will have a report next week for the fairground project. Rick presented a procurement request for a flight monitor for the Sheriff’s Office. A motion to approve the request was made by Commissioner Kenneth Maryboy. Commissioner Bruce Adams seconded the motion. None opposed. Commissioner Bruce Adams declared the motion carried. Open Time and Other Business Charlie DeLorme, SJC Ec. Development, reported that the county received an award for the States Travel Brochure. He also reported on the current status and progress on the Swinging Bridge. Commission Reports Commissioner Adams reported that the jail expansion issue did not make it onto the Legislative Special Session. He also stated that there has been several letters of complaint about the evaporation ponds. The Commissioners have decided to turn the matter over to the Planning and Zoning Board and state that a public hearing must be held. Commissioner Maryboy reported that there is concern over asbestos from a plant in Montezuma Creek that is going to be demolished. He plans to attend a meeting the 29th. Adjourn 11:28 A.M. 1
