About the Collection

Jon Moris (1939-2015) taught at Utah State University (Logan, Uintah, and Blanding campuses) for 29 years. During his life, he collected over 20,000 books, many rare or out of print. Around 6,000 of those books were donated to the San Juan County Library-Monticello Branch. The “Jon Moris Collection”, housed in the library, focuses on many topics of research, including Southwest Native Americans, East Africa, rural development, cultural economics in third world countries, and more.

The Jon Moris Collection is an expansive resource for anyone studying, researching, or teaching anthropology, pastoralism, or rural development. An amazing collection to just explore! Within easy reach of numerous National and State Parks, as well as geological wonders, Monticello, Utah in San Juan County is a beautiful place to spend a holiday.
