San Juan County Fire
Volunteer Fire Departments
Respond to wildland fires, fires on private property, and have rescue capabilities for accidents.
San Juan County has volunteer fire departments in the following communities
- La Sal
- Cedar Point
- Eastland
- Montezuma Creek
- Monument Valley
The following departments have rescue capabilities for accidents on the highways
- La Sal
- Montezuma Creek
- Monument Valley
- The City of Monticello, Blanding and Bluff have City Volunteer Fire Departments
Rescue Unit
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch will page out rescue units to the following incidents:
- Fires: Any motor vehicle accident resulting in a vehicle fire.
- Known/Suspected Need for Extrication: Any known or suspected need for technical extrication services.
- Known/Suspected Need for Patient Access Services: Any known or suspected need for patient access services, i.e., assistance with high angle access, water submersion, trench entrapment, rock fall entrapments, etc.
- Known/Suspected need for Support Services: Any known or suspected need for support services, i.e., scene lighting, personnel equipment resources for multi/mass casualty incidents, fuel/cargo containment*, evacuation/isolation assistance; traffic control as requested by law enforcement agency or until the arrival of a law enforcement agency, etc.
- *containment only of fuel/cargo spill
- Multiple (2 or more) Vehicle Accident/Unknown Needs: Any multiple vehicle accidents with unknown needs.
- Single Vehicle Rollover Accidents: Any single vehicle rollover accident with unknown needs, for example not knowing if victims may be trapped.
- Motor Vehicle Accident of Unknown Severity/Nature: Any motor vehicle accident of unknown severity or nature.
- Other: Other incidents in which requested by ambulance or law enforcement for additional support or services.
