Commission

Welcome to the San Juan County Commission page. We are pleased to serve as your elected Board of County Commissioners. As set by state statute UCA 17-52-501, we hold responsibilities for the executive and legislative powers, duties and functions of the county. We are charged with levying taxes, adopting ordinances and making policy for the residents in San Juan County as it relates to County business.

We welcome your input and comments. We hold regular meetings in the Commission room in the San Juan County Courthouse in Monticello. These and all Commission meetings will be posted on this website and on the State’s Public Meeting Notice website.

County Commission Policies and Procedures

The San Juan County Commission is in the process of drafting policies and procedures for the Commission.  Two copies of the latest draft versions are available through the links below.  The first copy is a “clean” or unmarked-up copy and the second copy is marked up with proposed changes.

Commission Policy and Procedures

Any comments or questions relating to these draft policies and procedures can be directed to Mack McDonald (mmcdonald@sanjuancounty.org) or Natalie Freestone (nfreestone@sanjuancounty.org).  As always, we encourage and very much value your input and feedback.

San Juan County Commission Meetings

Commission work meetings and regular Commission meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month.  Commission work meetings begin at 9:00 A.M with the Commission meeting following at 11:00 A.M.  If Tuesday is a holiday, the meeting will be held the preceding Monday.  Unless otherwise announced, all meetings will be held in the Commission room of the San Juan County Courthouse at 117 S Main in Monticello, Utah.

Commission Agenda

If you would like to be on the Commission agenda, please contact Natalie Freestone or Mack McDonald at (435)587-3225.  All agenda items need to be submitted by noon on the Thursday preceding Commission meeting.

Any documents or supporting information pertaining to the agenda item should be faxed to (435)587-2447, also, by the Thursday noon deadline.  It is especially important that you submit supporting documentation for items requiring Commission action.

The County Commission serves both as the executive and legislative branches of San Juan County Government. The Commission coordinates the efforts of the different County agencies and approves the County budget. They appoint citizen committees, establish special service districts, create and administer programs to provide community services. The Commission enacts ordinances that affect the health, safety, and general welfare of San Juan County citizens.
