LOOKING GLASS ROCK FROM THE WEST

General Description: The view is northeast across public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management. A portion of Looking Glass Rock is on state land.

Soils: Deep Begay fine sandy loams are found on this site. These soils have effective root depths of more than 60 inches with moderately rapid permeability.

Precipitation: The average annual precipitation at Looking Glass Rock ranges from 10 to 12 inches.

Legal Description: SE1/4SE1/4 Section 17 T.29S., R.23E.

COMPARISON: Since 1916, there has been an obvious decrease in sagebrush plants, but an overall increase in plant diversity, frequencies and ground cover. Shrub species occurring in 1995 include big sagebrush, fourwing saltbush, winterfat, rabbitbrush, snakeweed and Mormon tea. Grasses include blue grama, curlygrass, Indian ricegrass, cheatgrass, and threeawn.
