Heavy Equipment Operator

This position requires a higher development of skills and abilities relating to the operation and maintenance of equipment used in road construction, maintenance and repair of county roads. Assists the District Road Foreman on projects and is available for some supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the District Road Foreman and Road Superintendent.
Essential Functions
- Ability to supervise work progress at work site in the absence of the District Road Foreman.
- Informs the District Road Foreman of work progress and any problems that arise during the day.
- Can communicate effectively with the District Road Foreman, other employees and public in providing information and giving directions.
- Performs pre/post trips safety checks and services on assigned equipment. Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs and reports mechanical problems for shop repair.
- Performs any and all related work as required.
- Removes snow on county roads using snow removal equipment. Responds to snow removal operations and emergency situations on a 7 day/24 hour basis, as needed.
- Shows leadership skills, has good knowledge of and is an example in following the San Juan County Policies and Procedures.
- Follows all safety policy and procedures and programs established by San Juan County.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver’s License Class “A” with a tanker endorsement and have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a DOT medical certification.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must be able to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for the entire workday.
Salary:
$42,515.2 - $52,936.2/DOE (San Juan County typically highers at the starting salary)
